Hi, I’m Deb — the face behind The Bag Makers Sew-Ciety. I’ve been sewing since I was 17, and bag making completely stole my heart about 10 years ago. Now I spend my days helping people learn how to make bags, grow their skills, and find the joy (and friendships!) that come from being part of a creative community.
I’m all about encouragement, humour, and making sure you know you’re never sewing alone. Think of me as your cheerleader, your bag-making bestie, and the one who’ll always remind you that yes, you absolutely can do this.

How do I start learning how to sew bags?
If you’re new to bag making, start with simple projects like tote bags or pouches to get familiar with seams, zips, and stabilisers. I’ve got lots of YouTube tutorials and blog posts to guide you step by step.
What supplies do I need to sew bags at home?
You’ll need bag making fabric (like canvas or faux leather), interfacing or stabiliser, zipper tape, hardware such as D-rings and swivel hooks, and a strong polyester thread. You can find everything you need in my online shop.
